Keep Showing Up
I recently bought a shirt that is white and on the front it says:
Keep Showing Up
Keep Showing Up
Keep Showing Up
While that is somewhat the opposite of what I have done with this newsletter, it’s a very powerful mantra that has been helpful in all facets of my life lately. It’s kept me from focusing on the finishing part of something. The end goal. The performance. But all that’s really needed is to either keep showing up and start showing up so I can keep showing up.
One of the reasons I’ve struggled to get this out on a frequent basis is because I write it on my computer, and my computer is where all my work lies. When I turn it on, I feel a pull and a need to do my never-ending, always accumulating work. As in, if I’m going to be on my computer, I should use it to do work, not login to a writing platform. Even if I get something written, I usually always go into something for work afterwards, even if it’s during a time that I’ve specifically tried to designate as non-work.
So how do I do this when it’s so closely looped to my other work that I have to have boundaries on? Write on my phone? Use a different computer? Write in by hand and then use the translator tool to upload it? All things I’m considering. I think I also need to remember that this is important too. I love communicating with you and I love that you take the time to read this. Thank you.
Now on to today’s topic, which is dry skin.
My fellow swimmers know this. The itch that comes on your back after getting home from swimming, no matter how much lotion you use. The smell of chlorine that gets stronger if you put lotion on. My desert and winter climate friends know this too. How do we combat it? Luckily we have May Lindstrom, who I’ve talked about many times before. Her products are still amazing, I still use them daily and I still recommend them to anyone.
May recently wrote that one of the biggest mistakes we make when showering is to completely dry off before moisturizing. Our skin needs that water! When you’re done showering, don’t towel off. Put your oil (preferably) or lotion on with the water and let it mix together and soak in before you get out of the shower. It has made such a difference for me and now and I recommend you try it.
That’s all for now. Thank you for reading.
